Friends are like stars….you can’t always see them but you know they are always there.
I had started to think about what to write in this blog from the time of our first Charley’s Angels meeting, where we launched the fundraising campaign.
The thing that really stood out to me at the first meeting was this. When I looked around at the people in the room I saw how much love there was for Charley.
There were some pretty special people there, who were just doing a down right amazing job at being a really good friend to Charley and Jess.
Boy we have come a long way since that first meeting! Not only have we smashed the £100k target, but we have united together and shown the world that good things do still happen.
This whole process has definitely restored my faith in humanity. But what it has also opened my eyes to, is the fact that good friends are just like stars. They are always there when you need them to brighten those dark moments and pull you into the light.
I don’t think I’ve ever really sat down with Charley and said how I feel about her to her face. Do we do that in this day and age?
We are so concerned with blogging (ironic huh?!) and our perception to others via social media, that I think we forget to look into the eyes of the ones we love and have a connection with, and tell them how we feel.
When I met Charley I instantly clicked with her. It was one of those light bulb moments in life when I knew I was supposed to cross paths with this person. I knew I would have many laughs with this person and I knew we were friends for life, without pressure, or pretence, it was natural….we just got along.
She is to the point, witty, smart, endearing and boy does she have some balls. She passed my friend test.
I know some of you reading this will relate to that paragraph. You too will have had that same experience with Charley. She just has that infectious personality, is that person who lights up a room and makes you want to spend time with her.
She has been such a good friend to me as she has to others over the years, so now it’s our turn as a community of friends to return the favour to support her in her fight.
You really do realise in times of hardship, stress, or worry who your real friends are. It is evident that Charley has so many great friends, family and people looking out for her because everyone has decided not to give up.
Nothing is impossible and the amount of work that has gone into raising funds for Charley has given her so much strength to keep fighting.
If you want to join us in our bid to keep fighting for her life, come along to our Cycle4Charley event this Sunday 25 September and join us for the after party at Big Beach – Hove seafront, which starts at 4pm!
I look forward to meeting more of Charley’s lovely friends who have been by her side all the way.
